The mineral manganese calcium carbonate, sometimes referred to as mangano calcite, is a member of the calcite family. Depending on how much manganese is present, it can range in colour from pale to dark pink. This crystal frequently has white Calcite inclusions, occasionally in the shape of banding. A. Breithaupt made the initial discovery of this mineral in Banská, Tiavnica, Slovakia, in 1846. He gave it that name in response to the manganese content since it raised questions about the difference between pink calcite and true Mangano calcite. A compromise was eventually struck, and a manganese (carbonate) content criterion of 30% within the crystal structure was established.
