SODALITE

Source/s: First discovered by Europeans in 1811 in the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex in Greenland

Mineral: It is formed in Nepheline syenites, phonolites, and related rock types; in metasomatised calcareous rocks, and cavities in ejected volcanic blocks. More simply, sodalite is formed in silica poor rocks which contain other silica poor minerals and no quartz.

Physical Attributes: Sodalite is primarily blue but can be found as white, yellow, red, and green.
